conversation. Meg Hatch will be presented with the 2010 History Preservation award. Please come!

Oct 2, 12:30 "Lunch and Mingle with an Author" held at the Red Onion Grill adjacent to the library. Jack Harrell will read a short story from his book "A Sense of Order and Other Stories."

Jack Harrell

Jack Harrell, author of “Vernal Promises,” will present on his new book, “A Sense of Order and Other Stories,” Tom Kimball, Marketing Director of Signature Books will discuss the ins and outs of the publishing business.

Jack Harrell teaches English and creative writing at Brigham Young University-Idaho and co-edits the LDS literary journal Irreantum. He has published fiction and essays in Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought, Manna, Words of Wisdom, Popular Music and Society, and the anthology Dispensation: Latter-Day Fiction. His novel, Vernal Promises, received the Marilyn Brown Novel Award from the Association for Mormon Letters, and of his short stories, “Calling and Election” won the 2007 Fiction Contest from Irreantum and “A Prophet’s Story” won the 2009 Brookie and D. K. Brown Fiction Contest from Sunstone.

Tom Kimball

Tom Kimball is a 15 year veteran of Utah publishing and book selling. He has been employed by Deseret Book, Benchmark Books, and Greg Kofford Books. He recently completed his duties as a board member of the Mormon History Association and the book review editor for the Journal of Mormon History. He is the author of Owning God, A Short Study of Mormon Book Collecting.  Tom is presently the marketing director for Signature Books, a publisher based in Salt Lake City.

Ann Cannon“Story Time” with children’s author Ann (A.E.) Cannon (“The Chihuahua Chase”)

Ann Cannon

Ann, a columnist for the Deseret Morning News, has published a number of books for children and young adults, including a series of early readers featuring the adventures of two brothers called Pirate Pete and Pirate Joe.  Her newest novel, The Chihuahua Chase, is set in Salt Lake City.  For a complete list of Ann’s titles, please visit her website at http://www.aecannon.com/.

In addition to writing, Ann has taught children’s and young adults literature at Westminster College and Brigham Young University.  She also works as a part-time bookseller at The King’s English Bookshop in Salt Lake City.  She and her husband, Ken, have five sons.
